The Jon Bailey Band was born in Parkton, Maryland in 2005, the limits of their music only bound by their imagination. With an undying need to explore the musical possibilities The Jon Bailey Band has carved a new niche in the music world. Based on all aspects of music, from country to rock and roll and from blues to blue grass nothing is ignored and the soul that emanates from every song is palpable proof that music is why they play what they play.
From the first show at the Recher Theater in Towson, Maryland in August of 2007 it was clear that fans of real music were drawn to them. The first show drew more than 200 people and the band has been going strong ever since. The follow up to the first show was an equal success and the need to move on was apparent.
The Band called upon long time friend and engineer Drew Lamond at Wright Way Studios in Baltimore, Maryland for their first E.P. “Free Lovin”. There, The Jon Bailey Band found its sound, a deliberate mix of classic songwriting and new school rock and roll, a masterful blend of the old and the new.
The shows that followed were chosen with the same deliberation, with an emphasis on the show as an “event”. After having played several area venues such as the 8x10 , the Recher Theater, Hightops and several house parties the band decided it was time to make their first full length record “Chances”.
With the creation of “Chances” the band has developed their sound and style. The record embodies over 20 years of song writing and is accented by sweet harmonies which are carried out in a sea of melody. The Jon Bailey Band has perused and achieved music for music’s sake, leaving all egos at the door while allowing the listener to delve into a world filled with all the mystery and intrigue that is “Chances”.
Having recorded “Chances” the band decided to pursue new and exciting avenues in music. With addition of close friend Chris Newell on piano The Jon Bailey Band stepped into the future. The Keys added a dimension to their roots style that allowed the band to experiment in all areas of music. The solid roots of the JBB were developing into the roaring wall of sound that we hear today. This however was just the beginning.
Long time Bass player and founding member Jimmy Blevins left the band to pursue other interests. The Jon Bailey band found them selves looking for a new bass player. They hit the mark with Charles Nunn. His signature sound rounded off the roots rock foundation The JBB worked so hard to create. With his Bass Man in toe, Charles has helped The Jon Bailey Band redefine the future of rock and roll in Baltimore.
After developing the sound that would shape the bands future, they topped off a great beginning by achieving the semi finalist stage of the UK songwriting contest with their single “Greenish-Blue”, a song that embodies the soul of trying when you think you’ve lost, loving when you are in despair and finding a path that guides you when all others seem to have found their own.
They are a band that embodies truth and insight. They have developed a sound and a style all their own. In an age of reproductions The Jon Bailey Band has created a new niche and filled it with soul.
